On the Reunion Island, in the working-class neighbourhood of Le Gol, Tarto, a labourer at the main sugar factory, is preparing to experience his final Karmon – a carnival of Tamil origin where the living dance for the dead. Meanwhile, as he secretly crafts his glittering costume, Vincent, a municipal street sweeper pining for love, draws on all his imagination to make his outfit even more dazzling. Masked dancers are already appearing in the streets, drums are beating, ghosts are lurking. The Wandering Soul, the spirit of a sacrificed memory, whispers the traumatic tales of a buried colonial history.
