Dear AncestorA feature-length documentary by Lova Nantenaina et Eva Lova-BélyA film suitable for children aged 10 and over

Summary

2067, Reunion : a mother prays to her ancestors from the sea people of the neighboring Great Island. She tells her daughter about the struggle of her grandfather, Dadabe, against a large polluting project that devastated their ancestral lands and forced them into exile. It was a time when the powerful, across the world, disparaged those who were determined to leave fertile lands and generous waters for the children yet to be born… It was a time when Gen Z was rising up in Madagascar, and young people around the world were also fighting against climate change.

The authors’ intentions

We decided to write en anticipation film with a narrator who describes today’s world—the world before the impending climate catastrophe—from a child’s perspective. We feel that this approach allows us to take a step back… or rather, to get a head start on the conversation for the next generation.
